In Exodus 25:10–22, God gives detailed instructions for the ark of the covenant and the mercy seat—revealing both his blazing holiness and his desire to meet with his people. The ark holds the “testimony” (God’s truth that exposes us), yet God speaks from above the mercy seat, showing that closeness with him depends on mercy he provides, not performance we manufacture. This passage points us to Jesus as the ultimate meeting place where God’s holiness and mercy come together, inviting ashamed and weary sinners to draw near with confidence.
