A new family adventure awaits (and why we’re doing it) 🐉⚔️

Hello friends,

First, I want to say a huge thank you for being a part of this devotional podcast community over the years. As you know this is now entirely a podcast and no longer a newsletter and walking through faith and life with all of you has been a tremendous blessing. Today, I want to share a new project I’ve been working on with my three boys, one born entirely out of my role as a father.

I’m thrilled to introduce you to our new family podcast: Dads’ Dungeon Dudes.

I know what some of you might be thinking. Tabletop roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons are often not well received in faith-based circles, largely due to concerns about demonic, dark, or evil content. I completely understand those reservations, and quite frankly, I share them. But I wanted my boys to experience the incredible imagination, collaborative storytelling, and math skills that come with tabletop games, but I also absolutely refused to buy in to the D&D mindset blindly and just use the modules and adventures that are out there. Many (most?) of them contain at least some aspects that I find problematic, and I just could not reconcile myself to exposing the kids to the dark or spiritually compromising elements so often found in modern fantasy.

So, I decided to be the Dungeon Master and create a completely safe space for my kids to play. That is how Dad’s Dungeon Dudes was born.

What is Dad’s Dungeon Dudes? We are simply a dad and his boys, and one of their school friends, playing Dungeons & Dragons together at the table because it’s fun, we love telling stories, and sometimes the dice just decide better than we do. Here is what makes our table different:

  • Wholesome & Kid-Friendly: We specifically designed our game mechanics and stories to ensure it remains a completely kid-friendly table.

  • Real & Unscripted: None of the dialogue is scripted. You are hearing real boys navigating adventures, which helps build tremendous problem-solving skills and deepens friendships.

  • Focus on Redemption over Violence: We actively encourage restorative justice in our gameplay. For example, rather than destroying a desperate pickpocket, my boys chose to spare his life and feed him a magical, healing Goodberry before sending him on his way.

In our current custom campaign, The Verdant Awakening, the boys aren’t out to conquer the world, they are on an epic quest to heal a dying forest, restore corrupted clockwork animals, and learn what it means to show true mercy and logic.

If you have children or grandchildren, or if you simply love wholesome storytelling filled with laughter, sibling banter, and positive life lessons, we would be honored if you gave it a listen.

You can find Dads’ Dungeon Dudes anywhere you stream your podcasts. Or if you would like to support this project you can subscribe here:

Thank you for your continued support, your prayers, and for letting my family share our stories with yours.

Warmly,

Chris (Dad) & The Dungeon Dudes
